Is it just me, or does the bi-annual ritual of Springing Ahead and Falling Back seem unnecessary and confusing? Does it really help out with anything or just cause people to become disoriented for a couple of days as they get accustomed to different schedules for sleeping and eating, etc. And it's not just us people....our pets have to adjust to earlier or later feeding times that can throw their body clocks off as well.....and they don't have a clue what Daylight Savings Time is all about! LOL!
I know it's supposed to help us be more efficient in terms of utilizing the most hours of sunshine per day and time of year, but it also messes with our body systems and forces us to change what feels like the right time to eat and sleep and wake and head to work! The kicker is having to go all around the house, car and office changing all the clocks ahead or back an hour twice a year. And don't forget about your watches or other personal time keeping devices.
I did some research as to how and why this all got started. It turns out that the Germans started this concept during World War l to get the jump on their enemies and use the most of either morning sunlight or the cover of darkness to their advantage. Hmmmmmmm......don't think that turned out so well for them in either of the World Wars 1 or 2. I know growing up we were told it was done so farmers and others who worked outside would have more daylight to do their chores. Why not just get up earlier or work longer when the sun is available?
As far as I'm concerned, we can just leave the time the same and adjust as needed to the element of sunshine by the season. Or does that make too much sense?
